Timeline
1954 - 1956
Our Beginning
Fort Leavenworth Credit Union, serving personnel at Fort Leavenworth and their families, was chartered on April 6, 1954, with eight members. The first annual meeting took place in the home of two charter members, Lyle and Ivy McCoy, on May 17, 1954.
In 1956, Fort Leavenworth Credit Union moved operations out of the home of Board Secretary/Treasurer Lura Mark and into an office at Fort Leavenworth located below the Personnel Office.
1957 - 2004
Asset Size Growth and New Locations
Over the years, the credit union moved and added offices, increased staff, and expanded products and services, all while growing assets.
In 1975, the credit union purchased a double-wide trailer that continued to house operations on Fort Leavenworth until a new building was built 10 years later.
In 1986, we called that red brick building on Fort Leavenworth home. Later, an addition was completed in June 1993, providing additional offices and a 2nd floor.
In 1989, our 4th Street, Leavenworth office opened to expand access off of Fort Leavenworth.
2005
New Name, New Location, Expanded Membership
A big year for us! We opened our Eisenhower Road, Leavenworth building as our main office, which it continues to be to this day. We changed our name from Fort Leavenworth Credit Union to Frontier Community Credit Union!
2020 - 2021
Mergers
Completed our first merger in 2020 with RiverCities Community Credit Union, and our field of membership increased to include Brown, Doniphan, Franklin, Jackson, Miami, Osage, and Shawnee counties in Kansas. Plus, persons employed by McCormick Distilling Company located in Weston, MO.
In 2021, we merged with Muddy River Credit Union, formerly Bradken Credit Union, and added their membership of employees of Bradken Corporation.
2022
New Location and More Expansion
The grand opening was held for a new building in Atchison that became our 4th location!
We expanded membership to include all military and civil service (retired included) personnel of the U.S. Government, and added 41 new counties in Kansas: Anderson, Barber, Barton, Butler, Chase, Clay, Cloud, Coffey, Cowley, Dickinson, Ellsworth, Geary, Harper, Harvey, Jewell, Kingman, Lincoln, Linn, Lyon, Marion, Marshall, McPherson, Mitchell, Morris, Nemaha, Osborne, Ottawa, Pottawatomie, Pratt, Reno, Republic, Rice, Riley, Russell, Saline, Sedgwick, Smith, Stafford, Sumner, Wabaunsee, and Washington.
2023
Merger and 6 Locations!
Merged with Forbes Field Credit Union, which was open to any active or retired member of the United States Armed Forces and their immediate family members residing in Shawnee, Jackson, Jefferson, Douglas, Osage, Pottawatomie, or Wabaunsee County, Kansas. Our field of membership previously included these and did not require any changes.
Early in 2023, we celebrated another exciting milestone with a new building in Gardner as our 5th office!
Later in 2023, we merged with Forbes Field Credit Union and kept that office in Topeka as our 6th location on Forbes Field Air National Guard Base.
